More Zelda Details!

A few more details have been released on the upcoming Zelda game.  First off, Link starts in Taoru Village rather than Hyrule, but the village does form a partnership with Hyrule .  The livestock in Taoru are eaten by the people in Hyrule, and the village sends its mayor every year to a meeting to strengthen the sense of community.  In one year, the mayor is unable to attend the meeting and sends Link instead, who encounters something that starts off his adventure!

Zelda and Ganon will both be in this game, so it won't be like Majora's Mask, where Zelda is barely in the game, and Ganon isn't featured at all.  Link will also be able to fish in the game, but this time for actual fish, and not just treasure as was the case in The Wind Waker.  The title of the game is a mystery, and it has been hinted that it is something mysterious, and only something that people deep in the adventure will understand.  Link will also be able to communicate with animals, although the method of communication and the reason are unknown right now.  The exact place this game fits into the entire Zelda timeline also has yet to be determined.  Ganon's Tower  will bring you more information as it becomes available.

Zelda 2005 News Update!

In a spanish Nintendo magazine, some new information was given about Zelda 2005.  All the big news will be released in a couple weeks at E3, but a few tidbits of new information were given in this magazine.  First off, each character in the game will be very realistic, and will have their own unique personality.  Each of them will react to you differently in various situations, and the dialogue will be critical in gathering valuable information to solve puzzles.  Like all Zelda games, there will be a sense of humor in the game as well.

Link will also have a lot of duties in the game, from taking care of cattle (another hint that animals will be a big factor in the game), to finding useful items to fighting final bosses in dungeons.  The game is also going to be MUCH longer and more complex than Ocarina of Time, taking probably 60-70 hours on average to finish, and the world will be 2-3 times the size of the world in Ocarina of Time.  Another interesting fact is that producer Eiji Aonuma didn't like the fact that the water in The Wind Waker was blue rather than transparent.  In Zelda 2005, the water will be clear because they want to be able to open the game to a new subaquatic world.  Does this mean there will be an underwater temple, such as the Water Temple in Ocarina of Time?  Hopefully more information will be given at E3.  It's also possible that maybe Zoras return in this game and their area is larger and more complex.

Link starts out at 16 years old in the game, but he grows more mature as the game goes on.  How he grows more mature is still a mystery, one that will more than likely be revealed during E3.  The controls will be similar to Ocarina of Time.  This time the L-button does the work of the Z-button in the N64, allowing Link to target a specific enemy.  Link will also jump automatically when he reaches a ledge.

The future: Zelda DS will be different from the console version of the game.  It will be multiplayer, making use of the WiFi features that DS has, and it will also make excellent use of the dual screens and touch screen.  Right now there are no plans for connectivity between this game, and Zelda 2005.  In addition, Aonuma said that he plans to develop a future Zelda game that uses the same cel-shaded style that The Wind Waker used.

Nintendo Revolution Details!

At a local Gamestop today the guy who works there was telling me about Nintendo Revolution.

The big revolution is in the controller.  Remember how they said that Nintendo DS would provide a big hint at the new direction that Nintendo Revolution is taking?  Well, it turns out that was dead accurate.  The big revolution is that the controller will feature a touch pad that developers can program in many different ways to suit their specific game.  For example, in a baseball game, the screen could be used to precisely swing that bat, controlling both bat speed and angle, so that you can control not only how hard you hit the ball, but also whether you hit a pop fly (useful in sacrifice fly situations), ground ball, or line drive.  What does this mean for Zelda?  Well, it could mean several things.  The touch pad could be used to control Link's sword movements with unheard of accuracy, possibly leading to more interesting and challenging battles than ever before.  In addition to the controller information, he told me that Nintendo is trying to have Revolution available this year to compete with Microsoft, who plans to have the successor to XBox out sometime later this year as well.  It is not 100% confirmed that Revolution will for a fact be out this year though, that is just the current plan, which as we all know could always change.  Ganon's Tower will keep you updated on this and any other Nintendo Revolution information as it becomes available.
