Super
Smash Bros: Melee was one of the most anticipated games for Nintendo's
latest console, Gamecube. The game features most of Nintendo's
mascots, Including Link, Zelda, Shiek, Ganondorf, and Young Link.
Tingle, Dark Link, and the Giant Turtle in Majora's Mask make appearances
as Non-playable characters as well. The point of the game is for
Nintendo characters to spar with each other. As your character takes
damage, the damage percentage will increase. As it increases, the
character will be knocked farther back with each hit. The object of
the game is to knock opposing players off the battle field.
Depending on what mode of the game you choose, this will cause you to win
the match, or get a point. If you are playing for points, the player
with the most points when time runs out wins, otherwise, the last man
standing is the winner.
The
game features spectacular graphics and sound. The Great Bay area of
Majora's Mask has been re-created perfectly, and it makes you wonder how
much better the game could have been if it was on Gamecube. The
sound is brilliant, and features excellent versions of the Classic Hyrule
Theme, The Adventure of Link temple theme, and the Lost Woods theme.
The sound effects from the Zelda games have been re-created rather well
also, including Link's classic scream when he falls down, the sound of him
yelling as he attacks with his sword, and more.
Super Smash Bros: Melee has terrific play control. Each character
has four basic special moves, which can all be used by pressing
"B" and then pushing the control stick in a certain
direction. Each of the characters has their own special moves, but
Link and Young Link share the same moves. The difference between the
two characters, other than looks is that Adult Link is slower, but
stronger than Young Link, who is faster, but less powerful than Adult
Link.
Even if you aren't playing as a Zelda character, the game is quite a bit
of fun. With other characters, such as Mario, Samus, Fox McCloud,
Donkey Kong, and many more, the game offers a lot to any Nintendo
fan. The game is a true classic and should be in every gamer's
collection.
