The game begins with an animation sequence; first giving background information, then a voice calls you to Hyrule Castle.

Zelda is in the courtyard, and escorts you to the portal of the Four Sword sanctuary. A short animation sequence later, you’ve got seven damsels in distress, and one strangely familiar looking guy.

Walk up and pull the sword from its pedestal by pressing A. Wheeee! Wasn’t that fun?

Have a nice chat with Kaepora Gaebora. Now, the fun finally begins. Go ahead and start chopping up all the grass and bushes you can, because you’ll need lots of Force Gems (I’ve found it’s more efficient to cut grass in formations, you’ll hit more area per swing). When you’re ready, exit to your left. If you want to learn or practice formations, enter the house, talk to the man, and go into the back yard. Then once again, exit to your left.

 Go and stand n the orange switch to get force gems, then line up your four Links horizontally against the stone and push it into the water. Walk over the bridge you’ve created, pick up and throw the stone to your right (with R), and enter the cave. Get all four Links on the blue square inside, and you’ll open the door to go further in. In this room, you’ll get your very own boomerang! Go you! You can then go back outside, and up to the next section.

 Defeat all the enemies here, (if you can manage to whack Shadow Link, you can get 100 Force Gems). Then use you boomerang to get to key from the right side of the screen. Pick it up and take it to the house with the lock, and enter. Go through to the back, and use two Links to lift up the large rock (using R). Then, you can get the Fire Rod underneath. Go back outside, and burn the crud out of the tree stumps blocking the large stone. Pick it up the same way you did before, and enter the tunnel you’ve just found. Head all the way left, and climb the ladder. Hit the black circle once to make a bridge appear. Go across it, open the chest, then head up out of there.

 Pick up the rocks to make a path up, and defeat the two enemies (try for Dark Link too). Stand on the blue square for Force Gems. Go pick up the square on the bottom of the screen, and cut up the enemies along with the grass and bushes. Now go and pick up the other stone near the top. Whack the blue jelly thing underneath, and proceed to the next area.

 Don’t worry about the guards here; they can’t get you from where you are. Throw the stones, and jump into the water. Go under the bridge, and climb the ladder. Lift the stone and meet Tingle! Go across the island, and jump down on the other side. There will be a row of rocks in the middle, swim on the bottom side of them. When you come out the other side of the bridge, you can get the underwater gems by pressing B to dive, then B again to surface. Continue swimming to the right.

 Climb up the ladder, and go into the cave. Jump into the silver floating launcher, and press A to be tossed up, and aim left as you go to catch the ledge near to top. Exit that cave, then enter another to the right of the first. In here, you’ll have to jump from one launcher to another, so it’s a bit harder. You might want to get the boomerang as well. Once you’re out of the cave, head upwards.

Avoid getting hit by the fireballs from the water monsters, and go into the right-side cave behind the waterfall. Use X (or Select) to move your Links one by one onto the four orange circles. Once all four are covered, you’ll create a bridge on the middle cave. Go into the middle cave and cross the bridge. Open the two treasure chests, then have one Link stand on the yellow star. When that bridge forms, switch to another Link and have him cross the bridge, then press L to have all four regroup on the other side. Head out of the cave, cut down the bushes, jump in the water, and head down.

 After falling down the Gigantic Waterfall of Doom, you can head south to nab some Force Gems, then come back up and go to the right into the sparkly spiral. Head down, across and up onto the ladder, but work quickly and press A to swim faster, you only have 10 seconds. In the next room you’ll need to line up all four Links horizontally against the blue block, and push it down. Once the four grey blocks form, get the Links on them and you’ll go across. Stand on the blue square to open a door, and head through it to a room with two treasure chests. Then go up the stairs on the other side.

 Chop all the bushes to find a tunnel. Once in it- go across, up, and out. Once you emerge, head to the next screen. A lot of guards will come, just get in formation (I like the horizontal one here) and take ‘em down. There will also be four orange buttons along the upper wall, one is hidden under a bush. When done there, head left.

 Boss: Big Guard

Try to get rid of the regular guards first, so they don’t get in your way. When you take on the big guy wait until he raises him sword, then move out of his path and wait for him to move. When he stops, hit him from the back. Repeat this until he’s defeated!

 Head to the left, and whack all four eyes that make up the barrier of darkness with your sword. Squares of light will appear-step in them to complete the first level!
